AMC Accused Of Muscling Smaller Theaters Out Of Market

Law360, New York (January 24, 2014, 12:15 PM EST) -- AMC Entertainment Inc. was slapped with an antitrust suit in Georgia federal court Wednesday by competitor Cobb Theatres III LLC, accusing the movie theater giant of abusing its dominant market position in a "ruthless campaign" to deny Cobb access to first-run film releases.

In its 42-page complaint, Cobb alleged that AMC has strong-armed film distributors by threatening not to show their films during the first weeks of their release if those films are also distributed to Cobb's Atlanta-area theater, a strategy that the company has employed...
