NTSB Wants Tougher Rules For Crude Oil Rail Transport

Law360, New York (January 24, 2014, 1:28 PM EST) -- The National Transportation Safety Board on Thursday urged federal regulators to adopt tougher safety measures for trains carrying crude oil, including trying to reroute trains around populated areas, in response to a string of fiery derailments in the U.S. and Canada.

The NTSB, the agency responsible for investigating train crashes and other transportation accidents, collaborated with Canadian transportation safety officials to issue three recommendations to the U.S. Department of Transportation to make safer oil-by-rail transportation, which is rapidly growing.
