Belgian Cos. Team Up To Build $90M Satellite For Vietnam

Law360, New York (January 24, 2014, 3:04 PM EST) -- A consortium led by Belgian contractor Spacebel SA has signed an agrement with the government of Vietnam to produce an agricultural observation satellite for about €70 million ($96 million), the companies said Monday.

Equipped with a hyperspectral camera that records a wide band of electromagnetic wavelengths, the planned satellite VNREDSat-1B will survey Vietnam's vegetation and water management from orbit, allowing the country to make independent agricultural forecasts. Belgian contractor QinetiQ Space will design and build the satellite, according to the consortium's release from Monday.
