Hospital Ordered To End Pregnant Woman's Life Support

Law360, Houston (January 24, 2014, 8:28 PM EST) -- A Texas judge on Friday sided with the family members of a brain-dead pregnant woman who want a Fort Worth hospital to end life support, saying a state law prohibiting withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment from pregnant women is inapplicable. 

Tarrant County District Judge R. H. Wallace Jr. ordered John Peter Smith Hospital to end life support for Marlise Munoz by 5 p.m. CST on Jan. 27, ruling a provision of the Texas Health and Safety Code that limits advance directives of pregnant women does not apply to a person who is already dead.
