Deval Patrick wants to nix a sales tax exemption for candy and soda and bring his state in line with a majority of states that currently tax the products, and while supporters say the idea will bolster Massachusetts' reputation as a health-conscious state, detractors say the resulting tax increase will be a tough sell to legislators.
