NYC Mayor Seeks Tax Hike On Wealthy To Fund Pre-K

Law360, New York (January 27, 2014, 2:29 PM EST) -- An income tax surcharge on New York City’s wealthiest residents would fully fund a pre-kindergarten program and let the city expand its after school programs, Mayor Bill de Blasio told the state’s Legislature on Monday.

The mayor was in Albany asking the Legislature for permission to tax city residents who make more than $500,000 per year by an additional 0.5 percent of their income to address what he called a crisis of inequality.
