Amgen's Woes Worsen With Enbrel Black Box Warning

Law360, New York (March 18, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Amgen Inc. and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals faced more bad news Monday, as the drugmakers added the strongest possible warning to Enbrel's package insert label in the wake of studies indicating that the popular rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis treatment may increase the risk of tuberculosis and other serious infections.

The risks defined in the new black box warning are consistent with the risk of tuberculosis and infections described in previous versions of Enbrel's prescribing information, the companies said in a joint statement.
