Quinn Emanuel Sanctioned In Apple-Samsung Leak Row
By Ryan Davis (January 30, 2014, 6:48 PM EST) -- A federal judge sanctioned Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP Wednesday for disclosing confidential details of a smartphone patent license between Apple Inc. and Nokia Corp. to its client Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., but rejected the draconian penalties sought by Apple and Nokia.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul Grewal ruled that Quinn Emanuel did not do enough to ensure that Apple documents subject to a protective order were properly redacted before they were sent to Samsung employees during the companies' smartphone patent dispute. He ordered the firm to reimburse Apple and Nokia for the costs associated with the sanctions motion.
