Zimmer Hit With Patent Suit Over Knee Replacement

Law360, New York (March 19, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Orthopedic implant maker Zimmer Inc. has been hit with a patent infringement suit claiming the company’s knee-replacement implants and surgical techniques infringe two patents held by Hudson Surgical Design Inc.

In a complaint filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Hudson Surgical alleges that Zimmer and Illinois hospital group Rush System for Health infringed its patents through knee-replacement training, surgeries and instrumentation.

The patents-in-suit, U.S. Patent Numbers 5,643,272 and 7,344,541, cover methods and apparatuses for tibial and femoral resections....
