Waxman, Longtime Leader In The House, To Retire

Law360, Washington (January 30, 2014, 2:10 PM EST) -- House Energy and Commerce Committee ranking member Henry Waxman, D-Calif., a leading figure in the enactment of several major health, environmental, telecommunications, product safety and pharmaceutical laws, including the eponymous Hatch-Waxman Act, announced Thursday he would retire from Congress after a 40-year career.

Waxman, a former chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee and of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said that he will not seek reelection at the end of this term, his 20th in Congress after first being elected in 1974.
