Nortel Damages Reduced By $16.3M

Law360, New York (March 19, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Nortel Networks Inc. was unable to win a new trial in a dispute over digital-communication-networks data-management patents on Tuesday, but it did convince a federal judge to reduce the jury's $28.1 million damages award to $11.82 million.

Judge T. John Ward of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas refused Nortel's renewed motion for judgment and motion for a new trial in a case brought by an Australian patent-holding company, QPSX Developments 5 PTY Ltd.

But Ward did grant Nortel's motion for remittitur...
