Partial Judgment Granted In Laptop Lock Case

Law360, New York (March 19, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The judge in a patent dispute between two companies that make locks for laptop computers has partially granted the plaintiff's motion for summary judgment.

U.S. District Judge Susan Illston of the Northern District of California ruled Wednesday that the Notebook Guardian lock produced by PC Guardian Anti-Theft Products Inc. at least partially infringes a patent held by Kensington Technology Group.

Kensington brought the suit in 2004, alleging that the Notebook Guardian infringed U.S. Patent Number 6,553,794, issued in 2003 and entitled “Computer physical security device.”...
