Watchdog Report On IRS Scrutiny Was Flawed, Lawmakers Say

Law360, New York (February 7, 2014, 2:09 PM EST) -- The government watchdog who exposed the IRS' scrutiny of nonprofit political groups manipulated the report to appear as though conservative organizations were unfairly targeted, two Democratic congressmen said Wednesday.

In an open letter dated Wednesday, the congressmen say that Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration J. Russell George met in secret with Republicans and cut Democrats out of his office's communication with lawmakers. The congressmen, Reps. Gerald Connolly, D-Va., and Matthew Cartwright, D-Pa., called for an investigation of the inspector general's audit.
