FCC Nixes Exclusive Phone Deals For Apartments

Law360, New York (March 21, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Exclusive contracts between landlords and phone companies that require tenants to get their phone service from a designated company are a thing of the past, under an order adopted Wednesday by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission.

In a unanimous vote, the five-member panel decided to ban such agreements and void all those now in effect, putting a stop to a practice they deem to be anti-competitive with no countervailing benefits.
