NY Leaders Push For Ban On Microbeads

Law360, New York (February 11, 2014, 1:43 PM EST) -- Top New York officials on Tuesday proposed bipartisan legislation to ban microbeads, calling the small, plastic particles commonly found in soaps and other products a danger to the state's waterways and — through the food chain — to human health.

The Microbead-Free Waters Act would prohibit the production, manufacture, distribution and sale in New York of any beauty product, cosmetic or other personal care product containing plastic particles less than 5 millimeters in size, according to legislative leaders and Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman.
