US Not Ready To Restore Bangladesh Trade Perks

Law360, New York (February 11, 2014, 4:02 PM EST) -- The U.S. will continue to restrict Bangladesh's access to a trade preference program in light of the Asian country's track record on worker safety and workers' rights, a U.S. Labor Department Official said Tuesday.

Testifying at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, Eric R. Biel, acting associate deputy under secretary for the Labor Department's Bureau of International Labor Affairs, said Bangladesh had not made enough progress toward addressing worker safety and workers' rights issues to have its benefits reinstated under the Generalized System of Preferences.
