Keurig Hit With Antitrust Suit Over Alleged Coffee Monopoly

Law360, Los Angeles (February 11, 2014, 8:04 PM EST) -- Coffee maker TreeHouse Foods Inc. said it hit Keurig Inc. with an antitrust suit Tuesday in New York federal court, alleging Keurig penned deals with distributors and manufacturers to illegally maintain a monopoly over cups for its single-serve coffee brewers after its patents expired.

TreeHouse and its subsidiaries claim the deals are an attempt to squeeze companies that make cups compatible with Keurig’s system out of the market so that Keurig can charge high prices for its own versions of the pods, K-Cups. The suit alleges...
