Sidley Austin Attys Missed Deadline To Appeal $40M Verdict

Law360, New York (February 12, 2014, 6:31 PM EST) -- A Texas federal judge ruled last week that AT&T Inc. cannot appeal a $40 million patent verdict against it because its attorneys from Sidley Austin LLP and Davis Cedillo & Mendoza Inc. missed the appeal deadline, rejecting the company's claim that it was not notified when the clock started running.

The Feb. 6 ruling by U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia denied a motion by AT&T seeking an extension of time to appeal a March verdict that it infringed streaming media patents owed by Two-Way Media LLC.

The deadline passed in December, but AT&T said that email docket notices from the court...
