NY High Court Denies Atty Fees For Accounting Firm

Law360, New York (February 13, 2014, 9:17 PM EST) -- The New York Supreme Court's Appellate Division ruled Thursday that an accounting firm accused and cleared of malpractice is not entitled to attorneys' fees from its accuser, United States Fire Insurance Co.

U.S. Fire claimed that Cavalcante & Co. should have known that a woman using its services was making unlawful withdrawals of money belonging to an incapacitated woman under her care. The caregiver, Camille Raia, wife of disbarred attorney Steven Rondos, has since settled with U.S. Fire, and Cavalcante sued for the recovery of attorneys'...
