BP Urges Judge To Deny Ala. Motion For Deepwater Jury Trial

Law360, Los Angeles (February 14, 2014, 7:34 PM EST) -- BP PLC on Friday urged a Louisiana federal judge to strike the state of Alabama’s demand for a jury trial in its quest for damages over the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, saying the state’s remaining claims don’t require a jury.

The oil company, whose rig exploded off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico in 2010, argued in the motion that the claims remaining in Alabama’s suit don’t warrant a trial by jury, and are instead subject to the court’s admiralty jurisdiction.
