Chesapeake Dodges Fraud Claims In Oil, Gas Contract Row

Law360, New York (February 18, 2014, 5:36 PM EST) -- A Texas federal court on Tuesday dismissed most of a commercial royalty owner's claims against Chesapeake Energy Corp. in a contract dispute over management of oil and gas wells in North Texas.

The court said that MDU Barnett Limited Partnership didn't properly allege fraudulent intent on Chesapeake's part, saying the company failed to present evidence that Chesapeake was intentional or reckless in its alleged refusal to fully pay production proceeds it owed and that it had no fiduciary or accounting duty to the plaintiffs.
