Texas Judge Dodges Indictment On Domestic Violence Charge

Law360, Houston (February 20, 2014, 7:46 PM EST) -- A troubled Texas judge on Thursday avoided a criminal prosecution of allegations that he beat up his former girlfriend when a grand jury declined to indict him on domestic violence charges, according to his attorney.

Dallas County District Judge Carlos Cortez was no-billed by a grand jury on charges that he assaulted Maggie Strother, 26, on Dec. 28 at his home, the judge’s defense attorney Peter Schulte said.
