Facebook Game Maker Ends 'Candy' Trademark Efforts In US

Law360, Los Angeles (February 25, 2014, 8:07 PM EST) -- Facebook game developer King.com Ltd. on Monday withdrew its trademark registration application for the word “candy,” based on its popular “Candy Crush Saga” smartphone game, following a media firestorm over the developer's trademark registration and enforcement practices.

King.com, which had threatened to sue smaller developers based on the “candy” name as it pertains to digital puzzle games, said in the Monday filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office that it had expressly abandoned the application for trademark registration made under the serial number 85842584....
