Texas Bar Fights Fraudster's High Court Disbarment Appeal

Law360, New York (March 3, 2014, 3:18 PM EST) -- The Texas State Bar on Thursday asked the state’s high court to reject a former attorney’s appeal of his disbarment, saying his conviction and 20-year prison sentence in a fraud scheme involving a medical device company made the disbarment mandatory.

John Bender appealed his disbarment to the Texas Supreme Court, saying he should not be disbarred because he was asking to have his conviction overturned in a separate appeal. The state high court rejected that petition last month.
