Preventable Hospital Returns Cost Medicare Billions: HHS

Law360, Washington (March 3, 2014, 7:41 PM EST) -- Medicare paid out an estimated $2.8 billion in 2011 alone for the rehospitalization of beneficiaries harmed from adverse events during post-acute care at skilled nursing facilities, nearly 60 percent of which were preventable, according to a watchdog report released Monday.
