5 Tips For Employers To Avoid SOX Whistleblower Suits

Law360, New York (March 5, 2014, 9:29 PM EST) -- The U.S. Supreme Court's ruling Tuesday that the Sarbanes-Oxley Act whistleblower protections extend to private contractors for public companies means that some employers who thought they'd never have to worry about SOX were wrong.

The high court's 6-3 ruling Tuesday that SOX's anti-retaliation provisions covered workers at privately held contractors and subcontractors that perform work for publicly traded companies marked a significant expansion of SOX and opened the door for claims for a new class of workers, attorneys said.
