Privacy Groups Urge FTC To Block Facebook-WhatsApp Deal

Law360, New York (March 6, 2014, 6:45 PM EST) -- Two Internet privacy advocacy groups on Thursday asked the Federal Trade Commission to block Facebook Inc.’s proposed $19 billion acquisition of the mobile messaging service WhatsApp Inc., saying current WhatsApp users’ privacy won’t be protected.

If the transaction closes, WhatsApp will continue under its distinct brand, and will operate separately from Facebook’s proprietary messaging programs.
