French President's Ex Wins Suit Over Paparazzi Photos

Law360, New York (March 6, 2014, 6:02 PM EST) -- A French court on Thursday ordered gossip magazine Closer to pay President Francois Hollande's former companion €12,000 ($16,600) for invading her privacy by publishing photos of her after her breakup with the French head of state.

Valerie Trierweiler, the president's longtime companion until the same magazine revealed his secret visits to actress Julie Gayet, will receive €12,000, less than a quarter of the €50,000 her lawyers demanded, with an additional €1,500 added each day the award goes unpaid.
