House Republicans Target FCC's Ownership Changes

Law360, New York (March 6, 2014, 7:43 PM EST) -- House Republicans released draft legislation Thursday to renew the soon-expiring Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act, including a provision that directly contravened proposed rule changes announced earlier in the day by Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler.

Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., head of the communications and technology subcommittee, actually released a cleaner draft than some were expecting out of a renewal for STELA, which provides a compulsory licenses for satellite companies to import “distant” TV network programming into areas that don't receive it through the air....
