Senate Confirms Obama Drug Czar As Customs Commissioner

Law360, New York (March 7, 2014, 7:05 PM EST) -- The Senate on Thursday confirmed former Seattle police chief and Obama drug czar Gil Kerlikowske as the first permanent commissioner since 2011 of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, an agency grappling with several issues. 

The agency on Friday had to issue new rules to prohibit agents from stepping in front of and shooting at oncoming or fleeing vehicles and people throwing rocks, reversing a policy that has led to 19 deaths, according to news reports.
