Calif. To Mull Special Tax Liability Safe Harbor

Law360, New York (March 10, 2014, 6:41 PM EDT) -- California's sales and use tax regulators will meet next month to consider narrowing the ability of taxpayers to claim that a regulatory ruling gives them safe harbor from their tax obligations, a state agency announced Friday.

The California State Board of Equalization said in proposed regulations that taxpayers claiming relief from liability based on regulators' advice should only do so when the advice was given specifically to them.
