Anadarko Challenges DOJ's Deepwater Financial Data Request

Law360, New York (March 13, 2014, 5:56 PM EDT) -- Anadarko Petroleum Corp. wants the federal judge overseeing the Deepwater Horizon multidistrict litigation to block the U.S. government from gaining access to its financial transactions with subsidiaries, arguing Wednesday that the documents are irrelevant to the oil company's financial condition.

The U.S. Department of Justice's discovery request for the penalty phase of the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill trial asks for information on Anadarko's financial relationships and asset transfers made among subsidiaries, but Anadarko claims that the government is on a meritless fishing expedition....
