Louisiana Sues MoveOn For Slogan-Mimicking Billboard

Law360, Los Angeles (March 14, 2014, 8:31 PM EDT) -- Louisiana's lieutenant governor on Friday filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against activist nonprofit MoveOn.org Civic Action in Louisiana federal court, alleging it misuses the state's tourism slogan “Pick Your Passion” in a billboard criticizing Gov. Bobby Jindal's refusal to expand Medicaid.

Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne filed the suit as commissioner of the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, alleging that California-based MoveOn's billboard rips off the tourism board's registered trademark for slogan Louisiana, "Pick Your Passion,” written in purple and red fonts.
