Infomercial Star Trudeau Gets 10 Years For Contempt

Law360, Chicago (March 17, 2014, 8:28 PM EDT) -- An Illinois federal judge called infomercial salesman Kevin Trudeau “deceitful to the core” Monday before handing him a 10-year prison sentence for criminal contempt, a conviction stemming from spurious claims Trudeau made on TV about his weight loss book in violation of prior court orders.

U.S. District Judge Ronald A. Guzman eschewed the six-month sentence suggested by Trudeau’s defense at the hearing in Chicago, noting that the pitchman has been convicted of fraud multiple times and hit with four injunction orders for deceiving consumers.
