AGs Push More Pharmacies To Ditch Tobacco After CVS Move

Law360, New York (March 17, 2014, 2:28 PM EDT) -- The attorneys general of 28 states and U.S. territories asked Walgreen Co., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and other major retailers with pharmacy operations Monday to follow CVS Caremark Corp.’s lead and stop selling tobacco products, saying it sends a “mixed message.”

There was no direct threat of legal action in the letters, though New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman's office noted that his state and others sued major tobacco companies for the harm their products caused and entered into a massive 1998 settlement.
