DOJ Acknowledges Chocolate Industry Probe

Law360, New York (April 2, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- After months of speculation, the U.S. Department of Justice has admitted that the agency's competition authorities are investigating a possible price-fixing conspiracy in the chocolate industry.

The DOJ publicly confirmed the investigation Tuesday, making it the latest antitrust regulator to take a closer look at the world's biggest chocolate-makers.

"The Antitrust Division is investigating the possibility of anti-competitive practices in the chocolate-manufacturing industry," said DOJ spokeswoman Gina Talamona.
