FTC Bashes 'Patent Troll' MPHJ's 1st Amendment Suit

Law360, New York (March 18, 2014, 5:29 PM EDT) -- The Federal Trade Commission on Monday urged a Texas federal court to dismiss MPHJ Technology Investments LLC's bid to use the First Amendment to block the consumer protection watchdog's investigation into the alleged patent troll's enforcement campaign.

The agency accused MPHJ of improperly trying to block an ongoing investigation as well as any formal proceedings over the company's efforts to convince small businesses to pay to license MPHJ's portfolio of scanner patents.
