Urban Outfitters Riding Harley Brand Coattails, Suit Says

Law360, New York (March 19, 2014, 4:17 PM EDT) -- Urban Outfitters Inc. was sued Tuesday for violating trademarks belonging to motorcycle manufacturing giant Harley-Davidson by allegedly purchasing officially licensed Harley merchandise and then shredding and rebranding the apparel before selling it as its own.

The retailer willfully violated the Lanham Act and Wisconsin state statutes by improperly selling the altered Harley-branded shirts and jackets as part of the retail chain's "Urban Renewal" line of products, according to the Wisconsin federal court suit by H-D USA LLC, the entity that owns the trademarks at issue, and...
