Texas AG Scores Asset Freeze Against 'Diploma Mills'

Law360, Dallas (March 19, 2014, 3:57 PM EDT) -- The Texas attorney general on Monday secured a temporary restraining order freezing the assets of a pair of businesses offering high school diplomas online, after filing suit alleging the “diploma mills” rip off customers with false claims of providing valuable education.

The AG’s office claims Lincoln Academy and Rylex LLC, operating as Brownstone Academy or American Academy, offered high school diplomas online, in violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
