Marubeni Cops To Indonesian Bribery Scheme, To Pay $88M

Law360, Wilmington (March 19, 2014, 8:38 PM EDT) -- Japanese trading giant Marubeni Corp. pled guilty Wednesday in Connecticut federal court in a deal through which it agreed to pay $88 million in fines in connection with what authorities say was a scheme to bribe Indonesian officials to secure a $118 million power contract.

Marubeni pled guilty to eight counts of violating the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act for its role in bribing members of the Indonesian parliament and high-ranking officials at Perusahaan Listrik Negara, the Indonesian state-owned and -controlled electricity company, in order to...
