14 State AGs Urge DOL To Withdraw Persuader Activity Rule

Law360, New York (March 20, 2014, 3:16 PM EDT) -- Fourteen Republican state attorneys general on Wednesday urged the U.S. Department of Labor to withdraw its proposed rule narrowing the so-called advice exemption to the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act, citing concerns about the confidentiality of attorney-client communications.

In a letter to Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez, the attorneys general expressed concerns that the proposed rule — which could saddle law firms with significant new reporting requirements — would "undermine long-standing protections of confidential attorney-client communications."
