Sick Juror Dismissed From Madoff Cohorts' Trial

Law360, New York (March 20, 2014, 3:18 PM EDT) -- A New York federal judge overseeing the criminal trial of five former Bernie Madoff associates said Thursday that she would dismiss a juror whose illness had delayed the case for several days.

U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain agreed to discharge the female juror with the consent of both prosecutors and defense attorneys. Deliberations in the trial began Monday afternoon but were halted Tuesday afternoon when the juror became ill. No deliberations have taken place since.
