Fla. Bill Reforming Nursing Home Suits Heads To House Floor

Law360, Miami (March 21, 2014, 9:15 PM EDT) -- The Florida House Judiciary Committee on Friday advanced a bill that substantially reforms existing law regarding negligence lawsuits against nursing home facilities, shielding passive investors from liability but also adding teeth to enforcement.

Current Florida state law includes a statutory cause of action for a nursing home resident to file a lawsuit alleging negligence, but H.B. 569, sponsored by Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fort Walton Beach, refines several parts of the statute.
