Utah Miners' Families Seek Recompense

Law360, New York (April 3, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The families of the six miners killed in the Crandall Canyon Mine collapse have slapped Murray Energy Corp., which owned and operated the mine, with a lawsuit that accuses it of engaging in risky practices that contributed to the workers' deaths.

On Wednesday, relatives filed suit against Murray Energy Corp., Intermountain Power Agency and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power in Utah's third judicial district court. The suit says a hunger for profits over safety led to last summer's fatal cave-in.
