NJ Senate To Consider New E-Cigarette Tax

Law360, New York (March 25, 2014, 5:09 PM EDT) -- A pair of New Jersey Senate Democrats introduced legislation Monday that would impose a new sales tax on electronic cigarette wholesalers, a proposal that mirrors a plan floated earlier this year by Gov. Chris Christie.

Currently, e-cigarettes are not regulated by the state and are subject only to a general sales tax. The bill would impose a tax of 75 percent on the sale, use or distribution of an electronic cigarette by New Jersey merchants, wholesalers, retailers or consumers.
