Obama Says US-EU Deal Won't Relax Safety, Enviro Standards

Law360, New York (March 26, 2014, 4:41 PM EDT) -- President Barack Obama said Wednesday he would sign a trade agreement with the European Union only if it does not lower consumer safety or environmental standards, adding that such a deal would make U.S. natural gas exports to Europe easier.

Addressing the media after meetings in Brussels with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, Obama said he has no interest in signing a potential Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership that would weaken protections for consumers or the environment....
