Sunoco Seeks Zoning Exemptions For Pa. Gas Pipeline

Law360, Philadelphia (March 26, 2014, 2:07 PM EDT) -- A Sunoco subsidiary aiming to build a pipeline to ferry natural gas from western Pennsylvania to a Philadelphia-area refinery asked the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission on Monday to recognize it as a public utility and exempt pumping stations from local zoning ordinances.

Sunoco Pipeline LC, which envisions the Mariner East pipeline as half of a larger $600 million effort that will also ship gas west to Ontario, said Pennsylvania Supreme Court precedent firmly established the company as a public utility.
