Autodesk Says Chinese Rival Copied Software Code

Law360, Los Angeles (March 28, 2014, 4:40 PM EDT) -- American design software-maker Autodesk Inc. accused a Chinese company of copying wholesale its source code for computer-assisted design software in a copyright infringement suit filed Wednesday in California federal court.

ZWCad Software Co. Ltd. released an "original" design program that, the Chinese company claims, was built from the ground up using new, ZW-written source code, but Autodesk says it's such an exact copy of its copyrighted codes that it contains the exact same quirks.

The ZW software contains bugs that are identical to those in AutoCAD, the program sold by the American company, according to the lawsuit.
