Bed Bath & Beyond Insurer Says Firepot Injuries Not Covered

By Kira Lerner (April 11, 2014, 5:08 PM EDT) -- Safety National Insurance Co. filed suit Tuesday in New Jersey federal court, seeking a ruling that it doesn't have a duty to defend Bed Bath & Beyond in injury lawsuits over defective firepots sold at its stores because a different policy should provide the coverage. 

The suit seeks a declaration that Safety National is not responsible for the claims arising from BB&B's sale of Napa Home & Garden Inc.'s decorative firepots and companion fuel gel products, which were recalled in 2011 because they ignited unexpectedly and caused fires and burns, according to the complaint.
