Joint Committee Taps Sen. Wyden As New Chairman

By Ama Sarfo (April 15, 2014, 1:21 PM EDT) -- Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., has been tapped to chair the Joint Committee on Taxation for the rest of Congress' current session, replacing former Sen. Max Baucus, who left the post to become ambassador to China, the committee said Monday.

Wyden — who also heads the Senate Finance Committee — is following closely in Baucus' footsteps, as he also assumed the Finance Committee position in the wake of Baucus' departure. In December, former Wyden staffer Jennifer Hoelzer told Law360 that Wyden was entitled to the Senate Finance chairmanship as the committee's highest-ranking Democrat not set to retire.
